Things You Should Know About Choosing Tablecloths for Your Wedding

And whether it’s YOUR wedding day, or you’re in charge of planning a client’s wedding, you want everything to be beyond perfect, from the music at the reception to the food that is served and from the burlap napkins on the tables to the fitted tablecloths.

With that being said, the options for table linen for your wedding can be overwhelming, so there are a few things you might want to know first to help you make the best possible choices.

Consider Your Budget

It’s estimated that over 44,230 weddings are performed every weekend. That is a lot of fitted tablecloths, table skirts, and regular tablecloths on a lot of tables at receptions. When searching for the right tablecloths, whether it’s faux burlap tablecloth or any other type, you need to consider your budget first and foremost. Since there is a wide range of linens out there, there is a wide range in price as well.

Table linens can run you anywhere from $10 to $150+ a piece, depending on the length, style, and fabric. If you have 20 tables to cover, that could add-up to quite a bit of money. It’s best to sit down with your event planner and determine the budget you have to spend on your tablecloths and go from there. Never go into it blind and end up spending your flower money on your table linen -- there is room for both with some prior planning.

Should You Rent or Not Rent

The next thing you want to consider is whether to rent the tablecloths for your table or just outright purchase them (or maybe even borrow them from family members or friends). There are quite a few pros and cons to each of these options.

With borrowing, you aren’t even sure they are the right size and the quality of pre-used table linen is unknown. Renting is an option that many couples go with when planning the reception for their wedding, but you are using tablecloths that have already been used and many couples don’t like that. At least with new table linen, you know that the condition of each item should be perfect.

If you decide to purchase your linens, then you could be stuck with a bunch of tablecloths after the wedding and have nothing to do with them ever again. You may be able to sell them on an online marketplace after your wedding to recoup some (or perhaps even most) of the expense, but of course that would require some effort on your part.

The choice is yours, however, do your research and make sure you’re making the right choice for your needs and personality.

Don’t Forget the Accessories

Once you have the basics figured out and have found the perfect size, color, and fabric for your tablecloths, you need to make sure not to forget the accessories. There are other things that you’ll almost definitely need (like napkins), and then there are others that you may want to add if the budget allows (like table runners, table skirts, and chair covers).

That said, accessories such as table linen hangers to help minimize wrinkles in your linens are worth consideration. It can be a lot to think about, so you’ll want to sit down with your future spouse and determine just how you can add to your budget for any accessories. In the end, you’ll want to make your wedding reception the best for the two of you at a reasonable price.

These are just a few of the things that you should consider when searching for the right table linens, fitted tablecloths, and accessories for your upcoming wedding. Remember: set a budget, stick to it, and by following the tips above you will have the wedding and wedding reception you have always dreamed of!
