Burlap is a wonderful fabric choice for rustic, earthy, and natural settings. Burlap is simplistic, yet elegant at the same time. It's no wonder Burlap is such a popular choice for rustic weddings and nature-themed home decor.
There are a few materials that Burlap can be made from, though one of the commonly used materials for natural Burlap table linen is Jute.

Softness: Jute is a fairly coarse (rough) fabric. Equinox Faux Burlap and Designer Faux Burlap are both considerably softer than Jute!
Shedding: Jute is made from the fibers of the Jute plant, so it will shed and produce the dreaded "Burlap lint". Not our Equinox or Designer Faux Burlap - both are made from 100% Polyester!
Smell: Jute has something often referred to as "the Burlap smell". Some noses detect gasoline, other noses say 'chemicals'...in any case, Jute certainly has a distinct odor. Our Equinox Faux Burlap and Designer Faux Burlap have no Burlap scent!
Washing: Jute has a major drawback; you can't machine wash it without all but guaranteeing that you'll ruin the fabric. Equinox Faux Burlap and Designer Faux Burlap are both completely machine washable and dryer safe!
